The Workshops...

The Yang Xiaoguang Award is funded by workshops in Multi Media skills training for working photojournalists. Yang Xiaoguang was a passionate and talented teacher of video and photography and the workshops take inspiration from his love of bringing new skills to photographers.

There are currently three workshops being offered,

1. A five day workshop in short form multi media journalism. This course is currently based around training on Canon's 5D Mk II camera which as well as still pictures also offers video and sound. Working photojournalists are taught how to produce a much broader range of news content using the camera within the timeframe of a normal news assignment. On the last day of the workshop each participant is given an assignment to produce pictures, a 2-3 minute TV package, a 2-3 minute radio package, 300 words of copy and a short video for the web, all within the space of one day.

2. A five day workshop in long form multi media journalism. This course helps develop the skills to produce an in depth multi media journalism project. The course concentrates on the skills to develop long term projects such as the one being offered by the award.

3. A one day in house workshop, designed for newspaper and magazine training. During the day the tutors discuss the current international trends in the news business and the opportunities offered by multi media content.

All workshops are offered by experts in the field and all profits from the workshops are used to fund the Yang Xiaoguang Award.
