Christ Church, Over Wyresdale - widely known as "the Shepherd's Church". There has almost certainly been a church on this site since the 14th century or earlier. It was completely rebuilt in 1733 and greatly improved in the late 19th century. In 1733 a full time chaplain was put in charge of the church and John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster set aside an annual payment of 4 pounds for his salary. The chaplain still receives 4 pounds (about $6) a year from the Duchy who is now the Queen
